The Canal of Papenburg The Canal of Papenburg Ken Ku

I knew that I was going to meet Lennard for lunch today so I went a little earlier to check it out and walk along the canal that runs along the centre of the town.  I found a small book store that sold panoramic postcards of Papenburg so I pick up a few before heading to the döner restaurant.  I wasn't exactly sure if there will be any vegetarian options but I didn't need to worry at all.  There were plenty of options!

I ordered a vegetarian roll thinking that it would be similar to a salad wrap from by home but when they served it to me, I was astonished at just how huge it was!  It was stuffed with tomatoes, mushrooms, other vegetables, and then baked with cheese.  I couldn't eat anything else for the rest of the day!  When we finished lunch, Lennard had to go back to work and I needed to work off some of the calories that I had just ingested so I walked around the canal a bit more.

It most is just shops along the canal, most of them clothing stores, nothing out of the ordinary.  After walking both sides of the canal, I decided to walk back to the house.  The walk took about 15 minutes but along the way, I saw a grocery store and even though I couldn't fathom the thought of eating any more food, I just wanted to see if I could find some trail mix or mixed nuts.

That has been one of the harder things to buy here and even when I do find them, they are usually quite expensive.  About 2,50€ or more for a small bag of almonds!  I was so shocked that at this grocery store they had canned Trader Joe's peanuts and cashews for only 0,55€!  I immediately bought one of each, something to munch on while traveling.
